For the past 2-3 years I’ve wanted to work with a therapist, and a hypnotherapist in specific, to help me address some anxiety/depression issues and to see if I could clear any mental or subconscious blocks/patterns I might have that could be attributing to my auto-immune condition, but I’ve always been hesitant because I just didn’t know how to go about finding someone I could trust. I had seen one therapist in the past, but after a dozen or so sessions it just didn’t feel very productive and didn’t seem like it was the right dynamic I was looking for. I wanted to find someone that supported and understood what I was going through but didn’t coddle me and fail to challenge me in any meaningful way. When I found Emily’s website, I was intrigued that she had dealt with similar health issues and that her philosophy seemed to be very much in line with what I was looking for. I had a lot of questions and was hesitant at first, but after my first couple sessions I felt very comfortable with Emily and have since come to trust her in a way that I haven’t found with any other therapist or medical professional that I have worked with over the past several years. I truly feel that I can share anything with her and that I don’t have to pretend or portray some polished version of myself so as to not be written off and in order to be taken seriously. While I haven’t resolved my health issues yet, I feel that my time spent with Emily has been well worth it and has greatly helped me understand and reduce my anxiety and identify negative thought and behavioral patterns that I’ve carried with me most of my life. I feel like the type of work Emily does is invaluable and can only help contribute to improving my mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Also, I feel it necessary to mention that Emily is very accommodating and will help develop and use a framework that you are comfortable with, which was huge for me as I am turned off by a “new agey” or “woo woo” approach—so if you are someone like me, who can at times border on being almost pathologically skeptical, then rest assured that you have nothing to worry about. In my experience, she is an excellent therapist and a great ally to have when navigating difficult and tumultuous emotions that can seem too daunting and confusing to deal with by yourself. I would recommend her to anyone looking to address similar issues to the ones I’ve described above and I wish you well and hope you find what you’re looking for.
